The economy in France was coming back pretty fast up due to the increase in trade. It had increased almost 8 fold. France was second in trade coming in behind Great Britain. They were exporting good such as sugar, coffee and indigo that had been developed in its Caribbean colonies. The transportation was also increasing. For example the journey from Paris to Toulouse was only an 8 day journey compared to what it used to be (a 15 day journey) just 20 years ago in 1760. The poulation was also rapidly increasing. In about 80 years the population had increased by about 7 million. But with the population increase they could not supply enough food for everyone especially when some of the farms would get a 10% crop decrease due to harsh conditions. This lead to a lot of people starving. There was also bad government planning and storage ideas for grain in case of emergency shortages. The textile industry was also suffering. There was a lot of problems during this time but there was also a lot of good things that happened making the economy rise. http://premodeconhist.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/50257_barbary_ship_md.gif http://www.fsmitha.com/h3/h33-fr.html
